The Fulminators latest recording see them head North, South and West

I’m not going to apologise for posting yet more of my music – as I’ve said before, it guarantees that I’ll finish the tracks to a reasonable standard: my erstwhile guitar teacher, Leo Coulter, was always very disapproving of my sloppy recording techniques - and I want to prove I paid heed!

The first is North Coast, a slow surf number, starting with Garageband’s impressive seagulls and lapping surf samples. As will become obvious, I’ve recently been obsessed by guitar tremolo effects. I also love the thin, ethereal organ sound. The track reminds me of  Cornwall on a chilly, overcast day – hence the title.

“South Coast” was an excuse to try out some of the superb drum and bass sounds on the Rhythm Section Jam Pack – especially the terrific sloppy, “dead” 1970s snare drum I associate with The Band and Fairport Convention (and practically everyone else who followed). The synth sound is “Bondi Breath”. I also enjoyed the MIDI Dobro and the shimmering Telecaster chords throughout.

The final item is “West Coast”, so named because the chord sequence sounds like it’s been pinched from Jackson Brown’s reject pile. As far as I can tell, it’s in E Flat Minor. The guitars are a mixture of “Real” and MIDI. The middle section, featuring brass, isn’t right, but I don’t know what to put in there.
